DULCE-AMARGO 3 - Jackie Sleper

JACKIE SLEPER: DULCE-AMARGO es mi oda para el pueblo mexicano. La obra habla de la dualidad de la vida... dulce y amarga. Utilizo esta misma dualidad con un fruto, el limón. Los limones con los cuales construí el templo simbolizan el lado amargo de la vida, la opresión, el trabajo arduo y la pobreza que el pueblo mexicano ha sufrido a través de los años. Del templo de limones sale una pareja, un hombre fuerte y una hermosa mujer que representan la vida, la cual no siempre es amarga sino con la eterna esperanza de un futuro mejor. El color amarillo de los limones simboliza la pasión del pueblo mexicano.

DULCE-AMARGO is my ode to the Mexican people. The work speaks of the duality of life, with its bitter and its sweet sides. I have used a fruit to symbolise this duality: a lemon, which can be both bitter and sour on the inside. The lemons I used to build the temple symbolise the bitter aspects of life: the oppression, the drudgery and the poverty that have caused the Mexican people so much suffering over the years. From the temple of lemons a couple rises, a powerful man and a beautiful woman symbolising life, which is not always bitter, but brings with it the eternal hope of a better future.
The yellow colour of the lemons stands for the passion of the Mexican people.
